Penetanguishene passed several bylaws November 13 to open the door for a potential affordable housing development to be built on a parcel of land on the east side of Fox Street.

Carl Strand, president of Affordable Housing Ontario Corporation, has an agreement in place to purchase property on Fox Street south of Yeo Street and north of McGuire Park for a housing project.

This land was part of a subdivision plan registered with the town in 1999.

The plan proposed five lots on Yeo Street, which have been developed as single detached dwellings as part of the first phase of the project. The second phase involved creating four lots on a new public road, which would connect to Fox Street and McGuire Road. It also included a future “L-shaped” block which had no detailed housing concept at the time of submission.
