Cultural Competency Training

Tourism Simcoe County and the Culture Alliance in the Heart of Georgian Bay have partnered to offer tourism businesses and individuals with complimentary Cultural Competency Training, delivered by Kelly Brownbill.

In order to find a path to healthy, equitable relationships, it is important for Indigenous (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) and non-Indigenous people, organizations and communities to relate to each other from a place of mutual respect. Only by educating ourselves on others’ realities, can we reach that place.

This training is an introductory examination of First Nation/Aboriginal issues in Canada today. The main purpose is to provide participants with the tools they need in order to begin to establish healthy, viable relationships with First Nation/Aboriginal communities and clients. It has been modified and improved over 15 years of interaction with audiences totalling close to 10,000 from diverse backgrounds. It has been described by participants as the most concise, clear and accessible training they have ever received.

In this presentation, facilitator Kelly Brownbill takes great care to prepare participants to view history from a balanced, guilt-free perspective.
