Town of Penetanguishene Plaque Unveiling

In recognition of the contributions of the 2015 Rendez-Vous Champlain Committee, the Town of Penetanguishene is honoured to place an official plaque near Legacy Walkway, in Rotary Champlain Wendat Park (RCWP).

The 2015 improvements to RCWP were instigated by the collective efforts of a passionate, hard working and knowledgeable committee dedicated to celebrating the Town’s unique and historically significant heritage.

“It was the vision and drive of 18 devoted committee members that initiated the project and helped secure provincial and federal funding that assisted in revitalizing the Town’s prime waterfront asset” says Mayor Doug Leroux. “We cannot thank these members enough for their hard work in ensuring our Towns culture and heritage remains prevalent in our community.”

Legacy walkway in RCWP tells the story of Samuel de Champlain landing on the Town’s shores and the first interactions between the European and Indigenous cultures.  Along with infrastructure improvements came a massive celebration with representatives from across the province, all of which would not have been possible without the collective efforts of the committee members.

In 2015, a small wooden plaque was installed in the park near the canoe along with a tree however the wooden plaque is no longer legible.  To better highlight the contributions and thank the committee, a new plaque has been created.

Members of the community are invited to Rotary Champlain Wendat Park, by Legacy Walkway for the official unveiling, Friday September 9th at 10:00am.
