Midland in midst of massive construction boom

With 20 construction projects in the works, Midland is booming.

More than $104 million worth of building permits were issued by the town in 2019, up 300 per cent from the $26 million in permits issued in 2018.

“There is lots of activity going on and I don’t see it slowing down,” said Wes Crown, the town’s director of planning and building services. “Members from the development community are regularly coming in and doing pre-consultations on future applications.”

This growth is due, in part, to the fact the province has identified Midland as one of six primary settlement areas in Simcoe County.

Even though the town’s population has only increased from 16,214 in 2001 to 16,864 in 2016 (a mere four per cent), forecasts outlined in the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe project Midland to have a population of 22,500 by 2031.[]
