Town of Penetanguishene welcomes the Watercross event this weekend

Ontario Watercross Racing Association

In early spring, Penetanguishene Council approved a returning event of the Ontario Watercross Racing Association (OWRA) for this coming weekend, September 17 -18.

Come see for yourself what the excitement is all about! Racers and fans will be gathering in Rotary Champlain Wendat Park. To ensure the race area is kept safe, the beach, basketball court, and a section of field adjacent to the parking lot at the end of Scott Street will be closed to the public as the event gets underway. In addition, a section of parking lot will be closed on the Friday morning, September 16 to allow for setup.

The Town has also granted approval of an exemption for the OWRA from the excessive noise bylaw, through submission of request for the duration of the event.

For those who are not familiar, the watercross machines are snowmobiles that have been modified to race on open water. To control environmental risks like oil spills, all snowmobiles will be equipped with one-way valves to mitigate gas or oil entering the water; additionally, pit areas will provide buckets for gas disposal purposes.

Further information on events by the organization can be found on the Ontario Watercross Racing Association website.
